Ever since Jules Verne published his literary prophecies, the encounters with the other history, as well as the strange and infinite, are associated with the Universe. The question of whether humanity exists in its singularity in space and if the Universe contains other life forms has triggered philosophical, religious, scientific and artistic reflections for over two thousand years. This and many more examples demonstrate that the insights of astrophysics, space programs and biology are irreducibly interlinked with the images, narrations and movies of the science fiction genre. Cosmic Drive proposes the question on how these contradictory spheres of fantasy and hard science can be made visible. The work turns towards ostracised and speculative genres, obscure phenomena and a mixture of epidemic peripheries and cores. It localises and exposes the hidden and lost potentialities of the future.
Female in Focus will be on show at United Photo Industries gallery (16 Main St #B, Brooklyn, NY 11201, USA) from 22 October until 15 November 2019. The exhibition has been framed in partnership with Larson-Juhl.
